Box Breathing is

Aug 12, 2024 by Eileen Adler

Box breathing is a slow breathing technique that helps relieve momentary stress. The name comes from the fact that you divide your breathing into four steps as if you were breathing along the four edges of a box. To begin, sit with a straight spine on the floor or in a chair with your feet flat.

These are the four steps for box breathing:

Step 1: Inhale slowly through your nose while mentally counting to four. Let your body feel how air is filling your lungs.

Step 2: Hold your breath for a count of four.

Step 3: Exhale slowly through your mouth while mentally counting to four, getting all the air out   of your lungs at once.

Step 4:  Hold your breath and mentally count to four again.

Repeat Steps 1 to 4 until you can feel yourself becoming calmer and more relaxed.
