Shel Silverstein was born in 1930 and died in 1999. He was an American writer best known for his children’s books, songs, and cartoons. Maybe his most famous cartoon appeared on the cover of his book, Now Here's My Plan published in 1960 featuring two chained prisoners and one says to the other, “Now here’s my plan.” Although seemingly hopeless, Silverstein believed that even in a hopeless situation we can find hope—we must find hope.
