Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.”
–Mahatma K. Gandhi (1869-1948)

Hobbies are pursued during leisure time inspiring us with nuances and new innovative details. Life lessons inspire us to maximize our leisure time and the freedom to enjoy them and to make mistakes. Each mistake is an opportunity to learn something new.

Casual leisure is a right-this-minute, a “what is” quick experience, a basic motivation. If not now, when?

Serious leisure involves activities with a beginning, middle, and end. There is a time component; planting a garden, learning to ice skate, or playing tennis, encompassing organized steps to achieve the goal. And leisure time equals serious fun!

Project-based leisure may not fall into the category of “hobby” per se, but might be considered an avocation, altruistic, or autonomic experience of making choices about what to do at any given timeIf you are a running enthusiast, you might participate in a fundraising race to support a cause or research, for example.
